At the Sink

Developing a gum bichromate image is can be quite the task. All you need is are two (2) trays of suitable size for the paper and water.

  1. Fill a tray with warm water, make sure that is warm but not hot to the touch.
  2. Submerge the paper into this first bath.
  3. The unexposed potassium (ammonium) dichromate and color will lift from the paper and reveal a monochromatic (if it is the first layer) image.
  4. The print should be soaked for 10 minutes with gentle agitation. DO NOT touch the emulsion of the paper, this can damage the fragile gum bichromate surface.
  5. In the second tray of warm water, place the print face down for thirty (30) minutes.
