Gum Bichromate

Gum bichromate is another alternative process that doesn't use silver to set in the image. This process though it quite difficult because it uses and may depend upon the use of multiple color layers to render the final image and because of the constant washing, the paper may change size and cause misregistration. Despite that, gum bichromate is a very fun but you must wear gloves and be sure to not be working on multiple processes at the same time while handling gum bichromate solution(s) to avoid fatal mixtures. Refer to reliable reasources on which processes can be used together for one image and what chemicals to avoid while using this process. One of the best resources has been compiled into a book that presents a large range of alternative processes by Christopher James, called The book of Alternative Photographic Processes

The photographic chemicals used in the lab should not cause any problems if they are handled carefully. If you experience any sensitivity to the chemicals take extra precautions to reduce exposure. If you are pregnant, or become pregnant while you plan to work with photographic chemistry, stop and seek a professional opinion for your safety.
